Wouldn’t we all rather see this little one engrossed in a book?

What do you do about over-use of technology both in the workplace, school or home?

We can all make a difference in any environment by:

  • Setting sensible and fair boundaries. Eg. use devices only during breaks, and no texting at meal times.
  • At home, encourage other activities. Visit a ‘game’ store and discover the new board games that are available now!
  • Find ways to show your family that it’s not a ‘parent’ thing, but rather social behavior that has got out of hand.

MEET THE MAN WHO SAID:

“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” Albert Einstein

Whilst we do not agree of course with every word Einstein said, it does provoke thoughts about how technology interferes with some social aspects of our lives. We need to embrace our relationships without mobile phones constantly interrupting!

For teachers and parents:

Text Albert-Einstein-Quote-300x183

Its here!

What do you do about over-use of technology in your home? You can make a difference within your own family.

  • Set sensible and fair boundaries eg no texting at meal times
  • Encourage other activities…and yes! you should join in too!
  • Reward and praise efforts
  • Find ways to show your family that it’s not a ‘parent’ thing, but rather a social behaviour that has got out of hand

Whilst we do not agree of course with every word Einstein said, it does provoke thoughts about how technology interferes with some social aspects of our lives. We need to embrace our relationships without mobile phones constantly interrupting!

  • Here are some articles by Dr Charles Margerison that you will find encouraging and informative. Click on the links highlighted.

Will You Read This?

It is often said that children do not read as much as their parents because TV and computer games take up more of their time. As a result, many people feel that reading skills need to be improved. How can we improve reading skills?

How Students Learn from Amazing People Avatars

All technology is not bad! In fact, we can learn a lot from how technology has advanced in the classroom and business. Dr Margerison had been searching for a method, a technique, and a tool, that engaged students.  He has since developed this educational innovation called a BioView® avatar. This is short for biographical interview and is presented in the form of an avatar video.

Learning from Amazing People

Our children can learn from others who succeeded. Those who discovered their special talent and developed it. Our aim is to encourage students and adults to do likewise by understanding how amazing people lived and worked. See how Dr Margerison has changed how we can learn from these amazing contributors to our world through unique Bioviews®.

It’s about Time!

The phrase, ‘it’s about time’ has been around for centuries. Time is a means of measuring inputs and outputs. Time can be converted into something of value.  Therefore, as a commodity, it is an asset that is of great value to individuals and organizations, who do not wish to see time wasted or squandered. How can we use our time more effectively?

“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.”

Dr. Charles Margerison has also created something very unique – BioView® stories. Read as if Walt Disney is talking directly to students. Read on as his life unfolds and learn how Mickey Mouse and Disneyland came to be. Meet Walt Disney.

Your Grandparents! VIP’s in our lives! Class activity.

Posted on Updated on

Last weekend many would have spent valuable time with their adoring Grandparents to celebrate Grandparents Day.

Historically, families often spent much time together, sharing their lives. Getting together on family occasions and all posing for the family photograph was a big event.

family generations 2

As we know today, there are many blended families so you may have several Grandparents! A Grandparent may well be an old friend of the family or even a neighbour. We don’t all have our Grandparents anymore so we often ‘adopt’ one or they ‘adopt’ you! Many Grandparents help out their families, often becoming the primary carers in some cases.

Class activity:

  • What do you think is the role of a Grandparent?
  • Do you have a Grandparent?
  • What sort of relationship do you share?
  • What do you call your Grandparent/s and why?
  • What are some of the titles traditionally given to Grandparents in other countries?
  • Where did the prefix ‘Grand” originate from in relation to the name Grandparent?
  • Draw up a simple FAMILY TREE going back 3 or 4 generations

family tree

Teachers:  Have the class vote for their favourite, unusual name for the Grandparents of the students.

As we say thank you to our Grandparents, we invite your class to share stories about many wonderful people who were Parents and Grandparents in more ways than one. Meet them through their unique  BioViews® in our series of eBooks – Love and Relationships.

Class activity for Father’s Day – September 1st

Posted on Updated on

Teachers, here’s an idea for a Father’s Day task as Aussie Dads, Fijian Dads, NZ Dads and PNG Dads celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday September 1st!

We are sure teachers in these countries have much planned for the class. Most likely younger classes are making those memorable keepsakes for their deserving Dad!

child art

Here’s an idea for an older class activity:

There are many famous fathers all over the world.  Below are just a few who were significant father’s in many ways.

Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Edward Jenner, George Washington, Oskar Schindler, William Shakespeare.

TASK:

  1. Find out why we often refer to them as a ‘father figure’ in the eyes of the world
  2. What were their achievements?
  3. Did they have children of their own? What was their experience like as a father?
  4. Choose one of these famous fathers and write a short article of what it is like to be their son or daughter? This task alone will encourage your class to dig into the era and the lifestyle of the family, incorporating both the public and personal life. How would the public life of your ‘chosen’ father affect you and your life as a child?

Hathaway

Your class can meet these famous father’s and others HERE.

Meet Edward Jenner or maybe Oskar Schindler – their lives are fascinating and students world-wide can all join in this class activity that will take them into a whole new world – one our generation would not comprehend – the 4th task would be a real eye opener!
