What is this?

Davy lamp 2

The Davy Lamp was the first electric light that enabled miners to work safely, in close proximity to flammable gasses.

Many of our young generation are yet to find out more about the great inventions that have led to today’s technology. We have so much to tell them.

A diverse genius – Humphry Davy  was born on December 17, 1778.

Best remembered for discovering chlorine and iodine, Humphry Davy made many invaluable scientific contributions to our world. Follow him on an amazing journey from impoverished beginnings to becoming Britain’s leading scientist and receiving a knighthood.  Humphry played a major role in encouraging a scientific approach to manufacturing and production, helping to improve many areas of industry.

Our amazing scientists and inventors are perfect role models that we can learn from today. Businesses and schools can all generate excitement and inspiration for their staff and students by utilising these unique BioViews® to explore, learn and reflect on our historical geniuses.

  • Create conversation  – how would Humphry feel having successfully researched and invented what he did? The significant factor to discuss is ‘he was impoverished and eventually received a knighthood!’ From humble beginnings, Humphry triumphed.  Take his story as an opportunity to encourage others to raise ‘the bar’, and strive to do their best – “You don’t have to BE the best, just DO your best.” The results could be outstanding!

Education Around the World

Posted on Updated on

What are the education statistics from around the world? What regions have the highest college graduations? Do teachers around the globe share similar teaching ideals?

Education methods and standards, including results, vary around the world. However, one essential ingredient is CRITICAL THINKING and ACTION LEARNING.

Most teachers see learning as a process where students are given the opportunity to actively engage in the classroom, rather than become passive recipients of information. Teachers realize that they need to encourage students to make their own inquiry, thereby supporting the importance of independent, critical thinking.

Welcome to Amazing People Learning. Teachers and facilitators can discover a unique suite of professional development resources that support ACTION LEARNING.  These resources enable learners to develop problem-solving, communication and leadership skills that can contribute to organizations working more effectively.

Allowing students to practice tasks that require critical thinking or team work, will give them the skills and the confidence they need to enter the work force. These factors are essential in success in this highly competitive world. Classrooms with a positive atmosphere, where active teaching practices are developed, mean more students are fully engaged in the learning process.

What are the easy and the difficult parts of teaching? Some say, given the various face to face teaching requirements, that finding time to prepare is a major difficulty. Others say it is ensuring the control and management of the class. However, one topic comes up regularly. That is, what should one do in the first five minutes of a class?

‘The atmosphere and tone is set in the first five minutes.’ The students will be either turning on and becoming interested, or turning off and not concentrating. It is in the first five minutes of a class that a teacher sets the agenda and gains the involvement of students. It is necessary to provide a focus point to capture their attention.

Amazing People Worldwide has been working with schools in the UK, US and Australia over the past five years. Our mission is to raise student aspirations across our schools network through amazing people stories and associated cross-curricular learning. The Schools Resource Pack includes:

Support for this approach has been overwhelmingly positive. Teachers and students tell us over and over again, how the stories of people make study and learning easier AND more engaging.
