Who is The Man of Steel?

Fore many students, this in the only Man of Steel they know!  However, the ‘super man’ we are referring to was a prolific inventor. His successful and valuable creations, resulted in many patents being awarded to him. 

  • He is considered by many to have laid the foundation to the Industrial Revolution.
  • His breakthrough in steel production techniques attracted much recognition and a successful career.
  • It was his combination of innovation and business skills that made him such an amazing entrepreneur.

    He was also knighted!

Our modern steel technology is based on his process which he patented in 1855. This process was called ‘a decarbonisation process, utilising a blast of air’. bessemer

Friday’s Amazing Person was, Inventor, BEULAH HENRY! The charismatic Beulah Henry, was called ’Lady Edison’ by many, as she was a prolific inventor. Many people have actually never heard of Beulah, despite her development of over 101 inventions! Delve into her amazing story and discover how she came to enjoy global successes.

Thursday’s Amazing Person was, Nurse, EDITH CAVELL! Nurse Edith Cavell, helped Allied Soldiers escape from Germany-occupied Belgium during the First World War.  She lived by a personal motto: “I can’t stop while there are lives to be saved.”  Follow Edith, as she helped others through her nursing and as a member of a resistance group during the war.

Wednesday’s Amazing Person was, Educator, REG REVANS! Meet the lesser-known, but no less amazing, Dr Reg Revans. He is one of the great management thinkers and pioneered Action Learning, a process we can all use in our lives. The field of organisational development and the idea of action learning, was pioneered by Professor Reg Revans. A scientist by training, he made a major contribution to the education of children and adults. Also an Olympic athlete, he represented England, at the 1928 Summer Games in athletics.

Many have been influenced by his work and as a result of his ideas and processes, they were in turn, able to develop and contribute to our world.  By any standard, Reg was a remarkable man. “Learning must be equal to or greater than the rate of change” – Reg Revans

Tuesday’s Amazing Person was, Aviator, JACQUELINE AURIOL! From an early age, Jacqueline Auriol showed a keen interest in flying. However, this was frowned upon at the time, as an unsuitable career for a female.  Take to the skies with this brave woman, who battled many adversities and follow her courageous journey, as she achieved great heights.  

aviators1In her lifetime, she broke several records and broke tradition by carving out a career for herself in aviation.  Her success will continue to inspire women wishing to forge a career in a male-dominated field and her BioView® is a fascinating read.

Monday’s Amazing Person was, SAMUEL MORSE! Samuel Morse was an Artist and Inventor. Samuel Morse was a talented artist and is of course known for developing Morse code.
