We are delighted to share some stories about famous Americans during the Thanksgiving celebrations.

TEACHERS and STUDENTS – Here’s a quick quiz about some Amazing Americans.

This is an opportunity to test your knowledge of how historic Americans used their time well. If you can successfully name 8 or more then you have a very good knowledge of American history.

Voltaire – Writer, Historian and Philosopher

How many people in those early days would contemplate voicing their opinions boldly and with conviction? Voltaire did! He was very outspoken and often put himself at risk with both the Church and Government of the times. In fact, he was imprisoned on more than one occasion.

Travel in the footsteps of Voltaire, the prolific French writer, whose critical view on religion and the government, often landed him in hot water. Voltaire produced works in almost every literary form, from poetry and plays, to novels and historical pieces. He wrote over 20,000 letters!

Born November 7, 1867 – First woman to receive the Nobel Prize!

Her achievements are so commendable and inspiring. Marie Curie’s story is the perfect class project. Students can learn how she worked tirelessly to become the first woman to be awarded The Nobel Prize. From a humble life which included caring for her younger sister, Marie’s story is one all students should embrace and learn from.

A selfless genius and a dedicated mother who has left an amazing legacy for her children. Marie Curie literally offered her life for the work she believed in.  She was also a passionate mother and wife,  and her love for her husband Pierre was very deep.  She displayed much courage as she pressed forward with her work and research. Be inspired by this amazing woman who through her strong problem solving abilities, research capabilities, creativity, and organizational skills, was able to achieve life-changing success in her work.

Students, meet Marco Polo – ‘inspiration’ of the swimming pool game!

Marco”, “Polo”, “Marco”, “Polo” – kids in swimming pools all shouting out in a game of …. cat and mouse ….. the swimming pool game where one person closes their eyes, shouts out “Marco” and the others reply with “Polo”. ‘Marco’ has to try to catch those that shout out ‘Polo’.

History states that the explorer, Marco Polo, was lost and he thought he heard his family calling his name, ‘Marco’ and he replied with ‘Polo’.
