Elizabeth was born in 1821 and died in 1910. She paved the way for women in medicine. Despite many rejections and criticisms, she persevered and went on to become one of the greatest pioneers in the development of health care for women. Elizabeth trained many female doctors along the way and her story is a tribute to all of us who aspire to meet challenges head on and not be deterred.
It is accepted now that females may decide to study to become a doctor. Can you imagine the prestige bestowed upon Elizabeth Blackwell when she became the FIRST woman to receive a medical degree in the USA, and also to be named the FIRST female to be registered as a doctor in the UK? It was no simple feat!
She would be proud to know that we are constantly raising health awareness. This month as we promote Health Awareness, consider the input of this amazing woman. THIS MONTH WE FEATURE ELIZABETH’S STORY FREE – Join us HERE and learn from her life-changing story.
So, if you are interested in studying to become a doctor, here’s a ‘must-read’ story. To know and appreciate the background of women in medicine, gives you an insight into the difficulties they had to achieve their goals. Yes, many of us work and study hard today, but we have many pioneers to thank for the research and discoveries that we, at times, may take for granted.
- What year did Elizabeth graduate as the first female doctor in the U.S.?
- In what country did she first work as a midwife?
