“Look! Way up in the sky! It’s……no, not Superman……It’s Igor Sikorsky!”

Posted on Updated on

Tomorrow, May 25 we celebrate Igor Sikorsky’s birthday.  Who was Igor? Are we celebrating him because he could fly like Superman? Superman’s abilities were purely imagination. Igor’s flying (albeit in an aircraft), was REAL. In 1909 he designed and tested his first helicopter. You may have heard of The Sikorsky Helicopters. Defying gravity; how do they stay up there in the sky?

How would anyone even think of designing a machine like the helicopter? Igor did. Others had dreamt of developing such a machine, but Igor made it happen.  This story tells you about his fascinating life. He was a man with great technical ability, but driven by a passion. He wanted to fly in a helicopter. Find out how he transformed the world of aviation.
